Bloemfontein - Hijackers have stolen an empty truck on the N1 highway in the northern Free State after forcing the truck driver to stop, police said on Tuesday.
Constable Kediinametse Kitime said the 34-year old truck driver was driving towards Johannesburg when two vehicles, a white Mazda and a white BMW with Gauteng registration numbers, forced him off the road.
"The drivers of the vehicles knocked on the complainant's window with fire-arms and ordered him to step out of the truck."
Kitime said the hijackers covered the truck driver's eyes and drove off with him in one of the vehicles.
"The driver was dumped about five kilometres from the bridge over the Vaal River and ordered to run away."
The robbers drove off with the white Hyno truck, registration number SDS796GP.
"There were no goods in the truck but the driver's cellphone and some cash were stolen," said Kitime.
