Pretoria - A Unitas Hospital lung specialist appeared in Pretoria magistrate's court on Monday on charges of drugs manufacturing and possession.
Dr Gideon Eduard Naude, 52, of Irene, and Christiaan Jacobus van Schalkwyk, 32, of Johannesburg, were arrested on March 16 by the Johannesburg organised crime unit.
It is claimed that a drug laboratory was ran from Naude's mansion in Cornwall Hill and that Tik and CAT drugs were found in his home.
Police claim they found equipment and chemicals to manufacture the drugs in the house.
Defence lawyer Werner Kruger told the court the men had no prior convictions or pending cases.
Police had confirmed that Van Schalkwyk, a software engineer, was at Naude's home that night as he had to take the doctor to the airport, and was arrested in a vehicle outside the premises.
Cops don't suspect conspiracy
The items allegedly used in the commission of the crimes was not found in the vehicle, said Kruger.
Advocate J J Pienaar, who later took over Naude's defence, told the court the investigating officer did not suspect conspiracy or common purpose between the two accused.
Van Schalkwyk was released on his own recognisances, on condition he handed in his passport. Naude was granted bail of R20 000 and also had to relinquish his passport.
The two will appear in court again on May 26.
It was earlier alleged that the police confiscated Tik with an estimated street value of R50 000, CAT with an estimated street value of R20 000 on the streets and chemicals valued at R230 000.
