Nelspruit - A woman was found guilty on Tuesday of plotting her uncle's murder because her father had told her on his deathbed that her uncle had bewitched him.
Her uncle was chopped twice on the head with an axe, his stomach was cut open and his throat was slit.
The Nelspruit circuit of Pretoria High Court found Nolia Shai, 26, of Majembeni near Bushbuckridge guilty of murder.
Two men who carried out the deed - Frank Friday Ngobeni of Green Valley outside Acornhoek, and Silence Johnson Madonsela, 29, of Mzinti south of Malelane - also were found guilty of murder.
They killed Shai's uncle, Rosi Enius Shai, while he was herding cattle on October 21 2003.
His son, Limson Shai, blamed his father's murder on the rivalry between his father and Shai's mother.
He said both were sangomas, but that his father's practice was more successful.
Family living in fear
He believes Shai's entire family was behind his father's murder, however.
"It is a pity that she is the only member of that family who is facing the court. The whole family was involved in the planning of this crime," he said.
He said Shai's side of the family now lived in fear, which was why Shai had not applied for bail.
When the judge asked him if witchcraft was practised in the area, he said yes.
He, personally, didn't believe in witchcraft because he was a Christian and a pastor in the Zion Christian Church (ZCC).
Sentence is due to be passed on Wednesday.
