Cape Town - A 23-year-old man hijacked a car and later shot dead a pedestrian in Hanover Park, Cape Town, on Thursday, police said.
Captain Randall Stoffels said the man hijacked a BMW, sat in the passenger seat and forced to driver to continue.
Stoffels said that, according to the driver, while they were travelling on Surwood Road the hijacker shot dead a 27-year-old man walking down the road.
"The hijacker told the man to drive off. They were stopped by metro police and the driver told them the man in the passenger seat had a gun and had shot a pedestrian."
Police searched the man and found a .38 revolver, a 9mm pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition.
"These firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to determine if they had been used in any serious and violent crimes."
Stoffels said the man was due to appear in Wynberg magistrate's court on Monday.
