Jhb metro cops get tough
21/04/2006 15:10 - (SA)
Johannesburg - More than a hundred drunk drivers have been arrested and 40 buses taken for tests in Johannesburg since the beginning of April, metro police said on Friday.
Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said metro police will be in full force around Johannesburg this weekend.
Road blocks would be set up at 88 roads and highways.
"Drivers will be checked if they have consumed liquor. They will also be checked for drivers' licences and if their vehicles are roadworthy."
Minnaar said public transport would be stopped and taken to testing stations and checked by vehicle examiners.
This operation was in support of the Arrive Alive campaign, Minnaar said.
