Johannesburg - Two men were arrested in Mdantsane, East London, in connection with the rape of a 41-year-old woman and a car hijacking, Eastern Cape police said on Thursday.

Superintendent Mtati Tana said the men, aged 23 and 25, had allegedly hijacked the woman and her husband in the township on Wednesday at 01:00 before "they took the woman to a certain spot where they gang-raped her".

Tana said the woman later managed to escape and called for help.

The men would appear in the Mdantsane magistrate's court on Friday.

Meanwhile, a badly-decomposed body of Qinisile Nkohla, 25, was found at a residence in Ndakana, said Tana.

It was not known how Nkohla, who had been visiting relatives in the area, died.
