Still fighting
Desmond Tutu is showing no signs of slowing down as he turns 77, and is still an advocate for justice.

  • Johannesburg - At least 10 bags of dagga, valued at R500 000, and three illegal firearms were seized in a police operation in KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday.

Police spokesperson captain Vusi Mbatha said the dagga, in 80kg maize meal bags, was found at a homestead in Mangeni near Nqutu.

Mbatha said: "There was door-to-door search in the area focusing on illegal firearms and dagga."

He said no one was found at the homestead.

All who were involved in the planting of dagga in the area had fled when they saw police vans approaching.

Mbatha said the firearms - two 9mm pistols and a .38 revolver - were confiscated.

"Small parcels" of dagga and sixteen rounds of ammunition were also seized.

Mbatha said seven people were arrested, three for possession of illegal firearms and four for dagga.

They will appear in the Ngome magistrate's court on Friday.
