Johannesburg - A policeman led by his nose, managed to arrest an alleged drug dealer and seize a large stash of dagga in the process near Benoni, police said on Friday.
Superintendent Eugene Opperman said North Rand police were patrolling in Wattville when they passed a man with the "distinct smell" of dagga on him.
"When police officers tried to confront him, he turned around and ran into the Wattville hostel," said Opperman.
The officers ran after the man and found him hiding in a hostel block allegedly with a dagga cigarette which he tried to throw away.
The 26-year-old man was arrested. In his room police found dagga in his locker.
"Further information led police to the kitchen area of the same block in the hostel where they seized two 25 litre plastic buckets full of dagga," Opperman said.
They also found 64 envelopes and four moneybags containing dagga.
The man will appear in the Benoni magistrate's court on Monday.
