Johannesburg - A 13-year-old girl was raped at her home in Katlehong on the East Rand, after two men broke into her shack while she and her family were sleeping, said police on Wednesday.

Superintendent Andy Pieke said that the girl, her 40-year-old mother and brother, were sleeping when the men broke in at 03:00 on Tuesday.

Pieke said: "The men kicked the shack open and threatened them with a firearm."

They raped the girl and fled with a television set, a DVD player and cash. The girl's mother and brother were not injured.

Police were searching for the men and investigating a case of rape and robbery.
