Johannesburg - Police patrols in Johannesburg's high-crime Hillbrow district on Wednesday night resulted in the arrest of 23 undocumented migrants.

Police spokesperson Inspector Kriban Naidoo said the 23 were handed over to the department of home affairs, which would decide whether to repatriate or prosecute them.

A murder suspect was arrested on a tip-off from a citizen.

There were arrests for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, common assault, robbery, burglary at a business, and fraud.

An unlicensed 9mm pistol and seven live cartridges were confiscated.

Police also confiscated 115 parcels of dagga, six cocaine "rocks" and nine sachets of heroin, Naidoo said.
