Pregnant woman shot
10/07/2006 19:22 - (SA)
Johannesburg - An eight-months pregnant woman is "fine" and her unborn baby "unharmed" after she was shot in a robbery at her home in Lewisham, Johannesburg, on Sunday night, police say.
"Everything is in order," West Rand police spokesperson Odette van Staden said on Monday.
Van Staden could not say whether Elize Fivaz had given birth.
This, after a media report that she had gone into labour but that doctors were trying to stop the birth as the baby - a
girl - was not due until August 22.
Fivaz was recovering in the Krugersdorp Hospital, its staff confirmed.
However, they would not reveal any more about her condition or that of the child.
Fivaz had restricted the hospital from giving out information, said hospital manager Resa van der Merwe.
According to the Star newspaper, three men barged into the home Fivaz and her husband share with Louis Meiring and Cecilia Venter at 22:00 on Sunday.
She was wounded in the side when Meiring tried to pull her to safety after the robbers started shooting.
The robbers fled with a DVD player and Fivaz's maternity bag, packed with clothes for the baby.
