Johannesburg - Seven men appeared in Carletonville magistrate's court on Tuesday, in connection with the murder of local National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) branch chairperson Elias Mulaudzi.
The case was postponed to Thursday for a bail application, said control prosecutor Elize Smith.
She said the men - David Vilakazi, Jabulani Ntshangase, Zakhele Mbatha, Siphokuhle Mhlambo, Dan Mkhwanazi, Amos Postal Mthetwo and Mbuso Simon Mthethwa - applied for legal aid on Tuesday and would apply for bail on Thursday.
Mulaudzi was branch chairperson of NUM at Carletonville's Driefontein gold mine. He was killed on his way home from work on July 3.
The State alleges that Ntshangase, Mbatha, and Mhlambo paid Mkhwanazi to assassinate the union leader.
