Cape Town - A police dog has gone missing, said Western Cape police on Wednesday.

Inspector Bernadine Steyn said members of the provincial dog unit were travelling from Maitland via Thornton on the N1 when they noticed one of the dogs missing from their trailer early in the morning.

The female dog is a black and tan German shepherd, about three-years-old, with light spots on her back.

Anyone with information that can help police find the dog is asked to contact captain Michael Goliath on 021 417 7217.
