Johannesburg - A security guard arrested a 15-year-old youth when he spotted him and an accomplice carrying various household goods near the Driehoek railway station in Germiston, East Rand police said on Friday.

When the security guard approached them they dropped the goods and ran away, but he managed to arrest one of them on Thursday, said Superintendent Andy Pieke. A television set, DVD player and speakers were recovered.

A resident in the area later reported that his house had been broken into while he was away. The recovered goods were believed to be his.

The teenager from Johannesburg was to due to appear in court in Germiston on Friday to face charges of being in possession of stolen goods.
