Nelspruit - A quick-thinking security guard was able to avert a cash-in-transit heist by driving to the nearest police station.
His three attackers had leapt from the side of the road and opened fire on him in Limpopo just before 16:00 on Friday.
Superintendent Patty Khumalo of the Capricorn police area said on Monday: "The driver did not stop and he managed to drive to Apel police station for help.
"No money was taken and no one was injured during the shooting."
She said the 38-year-old driver had been travelling from Seatlong-ga-Nkoana village when he was attacked.
She said the gunmen fled on foot and were still at large.
