Nigel - A 44-year-old man has been arrested for falsely reporting that R20 000 worth of goods were stolen from his home in Nigel, said East Rand police on Thursday.
The man was arrested on Tuesday after police found he had a video machine that he had claimed was stolen in a house robbery, said superintendent Andy Pieke.
The man had also claimed that a public announcment system, a DVD player and a radio had been stolen.
Piek said: "On Tuesday, police followed leads and went to a house in Tembisa where they recovered the PA system, radio and DVD player.
"The owner of that house was arrested for being in possession of stolen goods."
Pieke said the man who reported the break-in to police had already submitted a claim for stolen property to an insurance company.
The man was due to appear in Nigel magistrate's court on Thursday on charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice.
