Johannesburg - Two men were arrested after they hijacked a car at a petrol station in Strubenvale in Springs, East Rand police said on Thursday.
The hijackers - aged 21 and 22 - threatened the owner of the car with guns before speeding off in his Audi, superintendent Andy Pieke said.
"The man immediately phoned 10111."
The car was spotted by metro police officers shortly thereafter on Tonkmeter Road.
"They (the hijackers) spotted police and started to race away. The police gave chase and fired shots in the direction of the vehicle."
Pieke said the suspects were arrested and found in possession of an unlicensed revolver and pistol.
The men will be charged with robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms, at Springs magistrate's court on Friday.
