Johannesburg - A 26-year-old man has been arrested for statutory rape after impregnating a 15-year-old girl he had been sleeping with for five years, Free State police said on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Motarafi Ntepe said the suspect had been "having an affair" with the girl since she was 10 in Manyatseng, Ladybrand.

The suspect later married, and despite warnings from the girl's aunt, refused to stay away from her.

After she fell pregnant in 2006, the girl's mother went to police, Ntepe said.

The man was arrested on Tuesday and would appear in court soon.

In a separate incident a 21-year-old man was arrested for statutory rape in Warden.

He impregnated a 15-year-old girl who now has a one-month-old baby.

He would also be appearing in court soon.
