Nelspruit - A man accused of calling a receptionist racist names appeared in Nelspruit magistrate's court on Tuesday.
Marius Bekker, 27, pleaded not guilty to a charge of crimen injuria against Rose Moosa.
She told the court that in her 20 years of service at the Metro Cash 'n Carry in Nelspruit, she had never been so humiliated and embarrassed.
She said she was called names in front of customers and suppliers, but mainly sales reps from various companies on March 20.
She said she had missed her lunch break due to a heavy workload and that Bekker came in and applied for a Metro Cash 'n Carry card.
She gave him an application form to fill in. He returned it without filling in his physical address and when she asked him to provide the missing information, an argument started.
She claims he called her a "bloody fucking thing", "bloody kaffir" and "bloody rude thing".
Salesperson confirmed testimony
She said she reported him to her manager and that Bekker pulled a face at her on his way out of the store.
She said she told him she'd see him in court, to which he allegedly responded by saying, "You don't scare me, you bloody rude thing. I am a lawyer, you kaffir."
One of the reps confirmed her testimony, but Bekker, who is defending himself, noted that Moosa had mixed up the names of the witnesses on her charge sheet.
He was warned to appear in court again on September 19 when the manager is expected to testify.
