Johannesburg - A 73-year-old Bizana man was stabbed to death, allegedly by his son, after he refused to wake up at midnight and make him food, Eastern Cape police said on Friday.

Superintendent Nondumiso Jafta said the man was asleep in his house in Mxhotsheni Village at midnight on Thursday when his son knocked at his door and demanded food.

"The elderly man opened the door for his son, told him he would not make him food at midnight and asked him to go to his room because he was drunk."

The son then allegedly drew a knife and stabbed his father 12 times. He died at the scene. The killer was still at large.

Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the attacker was asked to contact their nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600-10111.
