Durban - Police recovered 43 stolen cars on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast during an operation to curb car theft, said police on Monday.
Superintendent Zandra Hechter said 43 cars valued at R2m were recovered and 25 people had been arrested since "Operation Piston 2" started in June.
One of the suspects arrested has been linked to the murder of a Port Shepstone businessman, who was rammed off the road and shot.
The crime intelligence unit, the organised crime unit, the dog unit, and the national intervention unit participated in the operation.
The operation was initiated after police noted that numerous cars were being stolen in the Margate area.
Hechter said that the 25 arrested came from various vehicle theft syndicates and that the operation was continuing.
Bakkies, minibuses, BMWs and Mercedes made up the bulk of the vehicles recovered.
