  • Johannesburg - Two men were arrested at Nguni hostel in Vosloorus on Friday after police got a tip-off that they were dealing in dagga, said inspector Jimmy Maboko of metro police.

"Ekurhuleni metro police were busy with Operation Impiyethu (our war) in the area when they got information that dagga was being sold in a certain household in the hostel."

He said when police went to inspect about 11:30, they found a 45-year-old man selling the drugs.

"While busy with the man, police noticed another one, a 23-year-old running towards a closet.

"They cornered him and managed to recover a 9mm Norinco (pistol) with seven live rounds of ammunition before he got to it."

    Dagga-dealing charges

Metro police confiscated more than 30kg of dagga with an estimated street value of R150 000.

The two suspects were detained at Vosloorus police station.

They are expected to appear in Vosloorus magistrate's court on Monday facing charges of dealing in dagga.

The 23-year-old will be facing an additional charge of possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
