Prisoners crawl to freedom

Badplaas - Seven awaiting trial prisoners escaped from an Mpumalanga police cell on Saturday night by ripping their toilet out the wall and crawling through the hole that was left.
Police have launched a manhunt for them, said Eastern Highveld police spokesperson Superintendent Abie Khoabane.
"If we find any evidence showing that there was negligence on the part of police personnel, the law will take its course," he added.
One of the escapees was being held for attempted murder. He is Thulani Sibusiso Nkambule, 25.
The escapees also include Sizwe Mokoena, 19, who was being held for housebreaking and theft and Sibusiso Mandla Mandlazi, 18, who was being held just for housebreaking.
There was also a 15-year-old illegal immigrant and three men charged with the possession on an unlicensed firearm, Matthew Mpho Motaung, 27, Sifiso Nkosi, 21, and Sonnyboy Lukhele, 22.
Meanwhile, on Friday, two awaiting trial prisoners escaped from the Leandra police cells. Ephraim Kheswa, 25, was in custody for murder and Dumisani Mahlangu, 33, was in custody for housebreaking and theft.
Khoabane said the two men are very dangerous and that members of the public should not try apprehend them, but call Khoabane on 082 415 8375 or the tollfree number 0860 10111.
