Durban - A man was killed and another seriously wounded in a shoot-out with police in Pinetown, said Durban police on Thursday.
Captain Gugu Sabela said: "The two men, together with others in two cars, robbed a business of a cashbox containing an undisclosed amount of money and opened fire on police."
Police shot back, killing a 30-year-old man and wounding another.
Sabela said: "Greenside police were alerted to a business in Pinetown where five men had just robbed the owner of a cashbox at gun point before fleeing in two cars and a bakkie stolen from the business."
Police saw the vehicles - a Honda Ballade and a Toyota Conquest - driving towards Inanda, north of Durban and gave chase.
"But, the men opened fire and those in a Honda were shot... others fled in the stolen bakkie and a Conquest."
Police recovered the cashbox, one firearm, two cellphones and a handbag inside the Honda, which turned out to be a stolen car.
The wounded man was rushed to hospital and police were still searching for the rest of the men involved in the robbery.
