Johannesburg - No arrests have been made following the fiery deaths of four security guars in a cash-in-transit heist, Limpopo police said on Sunday.
Superintendent Ronel Otto said the guards were killed between Marken and Baltimore in the Waterberg area.
"The guards were transporting money on Friday morning to a bank in Lephalale when four gunmen in a Mercedes-Benz pushed their van off the road, causing it to overturn," said Otto.
The robbers fired several shots at the van, killing one of the guards, before stealing an undisclosed amount of cash and then dousing the van with a flammable chemical.
As they were escaping, one of the robbers set the van alight, with all four guards trapped inside. The remaining three guards burnt to death.
Reward
Otto said no arrests had been made and cases of armed robbery and murder were being investigated.
SBV were offering a reward of R500 000 to anyone able to supply information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the killers, Otto said.
On Saturday the names of four SBV security guards were released. They were Deon Steyn, Hennie Botha, Markus Malete and Dirk Kleynhans.
