Nelspruit - A woman was shot and killed by her own son on Friday.

The 48-year-old woman from KaBokweni near White River in Mpumalanga was shot through her bedroom door while she was pushing against it to keep her son from entering the room.

It is not clear what they were fighting about but police say that the man was in the habit of assaulting his mother.

"We do not know what the quarrel was about, but the suspect was trying to force open the door. When he could not, he shot through the door and the bullet struck his mother in the chest," said Nelspruit area police spokesperson Captain Amos Mashele on Monday.

He said the son ran away but police were hot on his trail.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the body of Vusi P Malele, 24, of Bhuga was found lying in a street in KaBokweni with both his wrists cut.

"Not only were his wrists cut, he had also been heavily assaulted all over the body," said Mashele.

Police have no suspects as yet.
