Durban - A hijacker was shot and wounded, and two of his accomplices arrested in Montclair, said police on Wednesday.
Inspector Thulani Mkhize said five men, one of whom was armed with a pistol, stopped a woman at an intersection in Durban's Montclair suburb and ordered her out of her car.
The five then took her bag and car.
The police, the eThekwini metro police and local residents took up the chase.
The robbers abandoned the car on a nearby highway and fled in different directions on foot.
One of the robbers was wounded when he was shot by metro police officers.
Another two suspects were also caught and are expected to appear in court shortly, said Mkhize.
Mkhize said the wounded hijacker was in hospital under police guard.
The money in the woman's bag, believed to be nearly R3 000, was not recovered, and neither was the firearm.
Two of the robbers were still at large.
