Volksrust - A father raped his daughter to punish her for sleeping at her boyfriend's house, according to police.

The 19-year-old girl had slept at her boyfriend's house on Tuesday night, but returned to her house in Volksrust, Mpumalanga, at about 04:00 the following morning to get ready for school.

"When she opened the door, she saw her father in her bed, and turned to flee. He caught her in the yard and dragged her back into the house, where he demanded sex from her as punishment for sleeping out," said Highveld area police spokesperson superintendent Abie Khoabane on Thursday.

He said the man used a condom.

He was arrested and will appear in court on Friday.

    Man rapes mentally ill woman

In a separate incident, in Leandra, a man raped a mentally ill woman at his house on Tuesday afternoon.

According to constable Samson Mtshali, the two used to be neighbours.

"We suspect that this had been going on for some time, because the woman did not scream for help," said Mtshali.

They were caught by the man's girlfriend, who walked in on them. She got so angry that she took the woman's jacket.

The woman went to complain at the police station, where the police realised she'd been sexually abused and opened a rape case.

The suspect has not been arrested yet.
