Britons appear for cocaine bust
07/10/2006 16:36 - (SA)
Durban - Two Britons appeared in the Verulam magistrate's court near Durban on Friday after they were arrested in connection with a cocaine haul worth an estimated R45m.
Police spokesperson Phindile Radebe said the two men - John Turon, 56, and Tommy Mackinnon, 35, - face drug trafficking charges after they were arrested on Wednesday when police seized a container with 169kg of cocaine.
The cocaine was seized in a container located in a warehouse in Tongaat, north of Durban.
The "uncut" cocaine was in a container filled with mirrors. It was due to be shipped to the United Kingdom.
Radebe said that police did not believe the cocaine came from South Africa, but that the country was merely the trans-shipment point.
