Secunda - Two rapists told a woman that her mother had sent them to rape and kill her.

As a result, the woman didn't report the crime immediately, because she didn't want her mother to get into trouble.

The 20-year-old woman was raped in Embalenhle, Mpumalanga, in February, but reported the crime to police only on Tuesday. It's not known what made her come forward.

Police arrested one suspect, who appeared in Secunda magistrate's court on Friday.

Priority case

Inspector Thabiso Ncongwane of Eastern Highveld police said they would investigate the involvement of the woman's mother and the second accomplice before deciding whether to charge them.

"This matter is a priority case, as the provincial commissioner (Afrika Khumalo) has made it clear that crimes against women and children are to be finalised as soon as possible," she said.
