Mom dies in suspected robbery
22/10/2006 15:54 - (SA)
Johannesburg - A woman was shot dead and her partner wounded in what may have been a robbery in Craigavon, Johannesburg, Netcare 911 said on Sunday.
Paramedic Mark Stokoen said a security guard at the gate of a townhouse complex was tied up, as was the couple's domestic worker.
"The occupants were upstairs with friends."
There were three children - one of them a baby - in the house at the time of the attack, said Stokoen.
The couple were engaged to be married later in the year.
Witnesses said the perpetrators cut the fence to gain access, then entered the house through the front door.
The man was taken to Life Hospital after being shot in the chest and was in a stable condition in the intensive care unit. The woman was shot in the upper body and died on the scene.
According to Stokoen, the shooting happened at about 21:30 on Saturday night. It was unclear exactly how many shots were fired.
Stokoen said the house was in too much of a mess to notice if anything had been missing.
Police spokesperson Sefako Xaba said he had attempted to get information after hearing of the attack, but "police didn't know anything about the incident".
The nearby Sandton and Douglasdale police station's phones just rang and rang.
