Ermelo - Residents of an old age home are up in arms because of sex workers who are doing business right in front of their noses.
Community police forum chairperson Piet Motha said that he had received numerous complaints from residents of the old age home. Truck drivers apparently stop near the old age home and pick up sex workers.
Town residents, who were unhappy about the increase in trucks coming through the town, felt that the sex workers made the situation worse by attraction more truck drivers to the town. The residents want the sex workers to be moved out of the town somehow, to do their business with truck drivers elsewhere.
"The truck drivers stop at a take away restaurant and then hoot to call the women. The old people complain they can't sleep," said Motha.
He said the situation was out of control and that something needed to be done.
"The truck drivers do as they please at night. The park where they want to and there is no law enforcement. These trucks are damaging the road."
Financial head of the SAVF Retirement Home Ermelo, Louise van der Merwe, said it was a serious problem.
She said the trucks made a deafening noise and was an enormous nuisance
