Cape Town - An angry motorist is looking at taxis differently after a taxi driver forced him off the road during peak traffic and hit him over the head with a firearm in yet another road rage incident.

According to Ryno Reed he never wanted to see again the man who assaulted him and his wife in Golfcourse Road near Klipfontein Road on Monday morning. They were kicked and beaten and the taxi driver hit Reed with a firearm against the head.

An eyewitness recorded the incident with his cellphone video camera.

    Second incident

This was the second incident of a motorist and taxi driver coming to blows in a week. Last week a Johannesburg taxi driver refused to allow the driver of a grey BMW to turn and they started fighting. Several taxi drivers joined the fight, blocking traffic with their vehicles.

The BMW's windscreen and the driver's window of the taxi were broken during the fight.

In the Cape Town incident, an unknown taxi driver tried to overtake Reed by turning into the lane for oncoming traffic. In an effort to miss an oncoming vehicle, he forced Reed's bakkie off the road, in the process colliding with it.

"I got out and asked him what he thought he was doing. He accused me of being a bad driver. How can I be the bad driver if he was the one driving into me?"

"I asked him to wait while I call the police or traffic department to report the accident. He refused."

According to Reed the man then tried to run him over.

"I got angry and hit his windscreen with my fist. I don't know how it's possible, but the windscreen broke."

The couple laid a charge at Mowbray police station.
