Johannesburg - A 33-year-old man set a 53-year-old's house alight when he found out that his girlfriend had moved in with the older man, Limpopo police said on Thursday.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at 20:00 at Driekop Kampeng village near Polokwane.

Superintendent Patty Khumalo said the younger man poured petrol around the house and set it alight.

"The 53-year-old home owner was not present at the time of the incident," she said.

Khumalo said damage to the house was estimated at about R50 000.

Police were investigating a case of arson.

No arrests have been made.
