  • Johannesburg - An 84-year-old traditional healer was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly beating a man to death with a knobkierie, said North West police.

Captain Sabata Mokgwabone said on Thursday the 60-year-old victim apparently "verbally abused" the sangoma, and then was allegedly beaten with a knobkierie, in Lomaynaeng outside Mafikeng.

The victim was taken to Mafikeng Hospital where he was admitted to the intensive-care unit where he died shortly afterwards.

The traditional healer was arrested and was due to appear in court on Friday.

Mokgwabone said: "He is charged with assault with intent to do grievously body harm, but the charge could be changed to murder depending on the result of the post-mortem,".
