Jailed, then back on dagga rap

Nelspruit - Two days after being sentenced to 15 years in jail, a prisoner was caught with dagga and found himself back in the dock.

Cedric Masedana Mokoena, 23, was sentenced to 15 years' on November 1 for armed robbery.

On November 3, he was charged with possessing 50g of dagga when a warder spotted some in his hand, searched him, and found more in his pocket.

"So," said Nelspruit magistrate Annemarie van der Merwe when he appeared in her court on Tuesday, "you have just started your sentence."

    Adding to overflowing bucket

Mokoena pleaded guilty and asked for a lenient sentence.

Mokoena said a friend from Bushbuckridge had smuggled the dagga in for him.

"To give you a prison sentence is like putting a drop of water into a bucket that's overflowing," said Van der Merwe.

She then fined him R500 and he was escorted back to jail to continue his 15-year jail sentence.
