  • Johannesburg - A Coin security guard is in a critical condition in hospital after being shot in the head during a shoot-out at the Marula shopping complex in Mabopane on Sunday.

    Inspector Erica Roos of North West police said the man was loading money into the security van when someone fired at him.

    "The driver saw his colleague fall and heard several more shots," said Roos.

    "The driver said he tried to drive away, but the vehicle's tyres had been punctured. The men made off with a cashbox."

    The driver was not injured. His colleague was taken to hospital where he wa in a critical condition.

    Roos said further details about the incident were not available yet.

    "This happened about 10:45. Police are still at the complex and we are waiting for more information," she said.
