Nelspruit - Three men took turns raping a woman and tossed her into a stream, but only one has been found guilty because the woman could not positively identify the other two men.
Nkomane Surprise Mkhatswa, 20, was found guilty of rape in the Nelspruit magistrate's court on Friday, while his co-accused were acquitted and released from custody.
They had been in custody since their arrest on March 26 and had pleaded not guilty.
The 25-year-old woman testified that she was walking alone in Daantjie near Nelspruit on March 25 when three men attacked her at gunpoint and took her to a secluded place.
She said they pulled her jersey over her head so that she couldn't see them and dragged her to a stream. After she was raped, she was tossed in the stream.
She recognised Mkhatswa as he was her boyfriend's best friend.
Mkhatswa was arrested at a shebeen along with two other men, aged 18 and 21, the following day.
Mkhatswa will be sentenced in a high court on January 12.
