Four held for Coin robbery
13/11/2006 15:25 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Four men were arrested by Monday afternoon for a robbery at a Coin Security depot in Modderfontein over the weekend, North Rand police said.
"Four people were arrested for questioning. We will see what the outcome of that will be," said police spokesperson Eugene Opperman.
An estimated R2.5m was taken during the robbery. Staff were held at gunpoint while about seven robbers loaded the money into a stolen vehicle, Opperman said.
Managing director of Coin Security's assets in transit department, KK Kekana, said that three of the alleged robbers were identified through the company's surveillance footage. One of them was arrested on Saturday and another on Sunday.
He said the robbers first hijacked a cash-in-transit vehicle and then robbed the depot in Modderfontein.
Kekana said they were still calculating the total loss, but that the initial estimate of the amount stolen was a maximum of R2.5m.
