R2.5m robbery 'an inside job'
13/11/2006 21:32 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Four men arrested for stealing about R2.5m from a Coin Security depot in Modderfontein at the weekend were company employees, said police on Monday.
Director Govindsamy Mariemuthoo, a spokesperson for the provincial commissioner, said four out of seven suspects who held up the depot had been arrested.
Staff were held at gunpoint while the robbers loaded the money into a stolen vehicle.
Managing director of Coin Security's assets in transit department, K K Kekana, said that three of the alleged robbers were identified from the company's surveillance footage.
He said the robbers first hijacked a cash-in-transit vehicle and then robbed the depot in Modderfontein.
Kekana said they still were calculating the total loss, but that the initial estimate was a maximum of R2.5m.
