Johannesburg - A man alleged to be the Moffat Park serial killer appeared briefly in Johannesburg magistrate's court on Wednesday, reported SABC radio news.

The 27-year-old man was not asked to plead and the hearing was postponed to Friday next week.

He is suspected of being behind the gruesome murders of a man, four elderly women and a 16-year-old girl.

He allegedly strangled his victims.

The man also faces three charges of rape.

The incidents happened at Moffat Park south of the Johannesburg central business district.
