Thief caught with a bang
21/11/2006 13:30 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Sparks flew on Monday as an alleged thief received an explosive reception while attempting to steal a DVD player from a store in Eastgate shopping centre, East Rand police said on Tuesday.
"A 23-year-old sales consultant heard what he alleges was a loud bang and he saw some sparks," said spokesperson superintendent Andy Pieke.
"He then walked towards where the noise came from and saw two suspects walking away."
The sales consultant at the House and Home store grabbed one of the men and found he had burn marks on his fingers. The other man managed to escape.
The two men had allegedly tried to steal a DVD player from the show room floor. When one of them tried to cut the chord, it exploded in his fingers.
The loud bang and the sparks led to the two trying to make a quick get away.
The man caught by the sales assistant will appear in Germiston magistrate's court on November 22 on charges of attempted theft.
