Johannesburg - Two robbers and a supermarket owner were wounded in a struggle at the store in Marabastad, Pretoria police said on Wednesday.
Inspector Paul Ramaloko said the two armed men went to the supermarket on Tuesday afternoon and held the owner at gunpoint.
"But the owner managed to fight with the suspects and in the process a firearm went off, hitting the owner twice and one of the suspects once," said Ramaloko.
"The two suspects tried to run away but community members in the shop chased and caught one of the men and assaulted him."
Police arrested his accomplice a short while later.
The owner and the two men were taken to hospital.
The robbers were under police guard and would appear in court once they were discharged, said Ramaloko.
They face charges of attempted murder, attempted robbery and pointing an unlicensed firearm.
Ramaloko said no one else in the store was injured and nothing was stolen.
Police were investigating.
