Cape Town - Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge, the deputy minister of health, underwent a "minor operation" in a Cape Town hospital on Wednesday, said her spokesperson Mabel Dlamini.

She said Madlala-Routledge was to be released from hospital on Thursday.

She would not reveal any other information.

Madlala-Routledge's stint in hospital comes just weeks after her superior, Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, was treated for a respiratory infection in Johannesburg Hospital.
