Shots fired at heist funeral
25/11/2006 16:26 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Three Gauteng men were arrested on Saturday for firing shots at the funeral of a cash-in-transit heist robber in Khuma, shortly before President Thabo Mbeki was due to hold an imbizo, North West police said.
Superintendent Louis Jacobs said police were on high alert due to the president's visit and had responded to shots fired at the graveyard around 11:30.
The imbizo programme planned to start at 12:30 at the Khuma stadium according to an online statement issued by the presidency.
The three men, aged between 26 and 31, were arrested for discharging firearms in a municipal area. The suspects were in the custody and their guns were not confiscated. Nobody was injured during the incident.
The funeral was for a robber killed last week.
