Nelspruit - A "love-crazed" man was jailed for 11 years on Thursday after he ignored a court order to leave his ex-girlfriend alone and, instead, kidnapped and raped her repeatedly.
Stanley Mthethwa, 32, of Umlazi township in Durban drove almost 800km across Mpumalanga on January 8 to the woman's Nelspruit home, where he climbed through a window and took her captive.
Mthethwa then repeatedly raped the woman right through the night, only stopping at dawn to bundle her into his car and drive her 300km to Piet Retief, where he dumped her beside the road.
He was arrested in Durban, by police who had been tipped off by their Mpumalanga counterparts.
The Nelspruit circuit of Pretoria High Court found Mthethwa guilty on Thursday of housebreaking with the intention to commit rape, violating a protection order, rape and kidnapping.
Has forgiven him
Mthethwa told the court that he had longed to start a "big, happy family" with the woman. He claimed to have paid lobola for her.
His girlfriend, who works as a secretary at the government complex in Nelspruit, said she would never trust him again, but that she accepted his apology and had forgiven him.
She said she still had sleepless nights, but had to wait until next year to continue getting counselling because she had used up her medical aid and could not afford the counsellor's bills on her own
