Pensioner 'eaten by dogs'
05/12/2006 21:30 - (SA)
Durban - KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating claims that a pack of four dogs killed a 69-year-old pensioner near Ixopo and fed on his body.
Captain Vincent Pandarum said on Tuesday the "skeletal remains" of Bhekinduna Dlamini were discovered in the early hours of Saturday morning by Vusumuzi Hadebe, who saw the body near his home in High Flats.
Dlamini apparently left home on Friday to collect his pension and never returned.
Pandarum said that when police were at the crime scene on Saturday morning, four dogs "returned to feed on the body again and were driven away by police and bystanders".
"What made the police believe the dogs were involved in the attack is that they were covered in blood."
Cops know who owns the dogs
The dogs were taken to the SPCA to have the contents of their stomachs analysed while a post-mortem is being carried out on the remains of the pensioner.
Pandarum said: "The owner of the dogs is known to locals and the police.
"If it is found the dogs were responsible for the man's death, then the police will make an arrest."
