Rustenburg - The owner of two Staffordshire Bull Terriers that attacked a 60-year-old man at Hartebeespoort Dam near Brits may face charges, North West police said on Wednesday.
Constable Bontle Diphoko said a case of keeping vicious dogs had been opened and Rietee Steyn, who breeds the dogs at her property could be charged.
She said the docket would be referred to the court to decide whether to prosecute Steyn.
Her dogs allegedly attacked her gardener of eight years, Dumpi Tladi, when he reported for work on Tuesday morning.
By Wednesday morning he was still in a critical condition at the George Mukhari hospital in Ga-Rankuwa, north of Pretoria.
He suffered injuries to his left eye, nose and mouth. The skin of his face was also ripped off.
Diphoko said Tladi was an epileptic and may have suffered a fit and fallen when he arrived at work, triggering the attack.
It was not yet clear what would happen to the dogs as the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was still to decide on the fate of the dogs, said Diphoko.
