Secunda - Two armed men have robbed a bakery in Piet Retief of R30 000, Mpumalanga police said on Tuesday.

The robbers held an employee at gunpoint in the bakery in Church Street before making off with the loot around 18:30 on Monday, Superintendent Abie Khoabane said.

No shots were fired, nobody was injured and the thieves were still at large.

In Bethal, a 17-year-old boy was arrested after he allegedly tried to grab a money bag which a Pep store employee was taking to deposit at a local bank on Monday morning.

"She held on tightly to the money bag and members of the public came to her assistance."

The youth was expected to appear in the local magistrate's court on Tuesday.
