Johannesburg - A gang of up to 15 men was still at large on Tuesday after robbing security guards at the Carousel hotel in Temba of empty cash boxes, North West police said.

"A security company went to collect cash from a Shell garage outside the Carousel hotel on Monday around 15:00 when the gang arrived," said Captain Elsabe Agoustides.

Wielding AK-47 assault rifles and 9mm pistols, they fired shots before escaping with the empty boxes in a dark blue BMW and a white Nissan bakkie. A security guard was injured.
